A Lake Community of Converted Cottages
Surveyors Johnathon Stratton and Luke Whitmore settled the area in 1825, naming the lake and community after Whitmore; a post office opened in 1834 as 'Northfield' before being renamed Whitmore Lake in 1854. Many of its homes began as seasonal summer cottages only recently converted to year-round use.
